dealer vs MB classic center price diff

Hi all,

I went to the dealer to order a set of manifold studs and thermostat housing studs.

They quoted me $5.50 each. Yeah I know these are .50 studs but I don't know the correct lenght or thread.

I had emailed MB classic center and their suggested rate is 2.20.

Am I getting ripped or is this standard MB markup?

Is the dealer the only place I can get the correct studs?

You're probably getting ripped. I'm sure the Classic Center quoted you list price, which the dealer has more than doubled.

Some dealers are robbers, and some are not. Find a dealer in your area who is not - I did - and let them WHY you are doing business with them (In my case, I'm willing to make a 120mi round trip to a fair-priced dealer).

MBUSA puts out a price list with three prices on it, MSRP, wholesale and dealer cost. MBUSA would like all of their dealers to sell at MSRP, but they are free to set whatever price they choose. A few dealers around will sell at a little less than MSRP. A lot of them will sell at MSRP plus a percentage. If you want Mercedes parts in the Mercedes box, then you can't go wrong using Caliber Motors in CA. They will sell at wholesale which is typically 20% less than MSRP and they also ship to you. They are often the same or less than the World Pac guys' prices on a lot of items.
