Angry W108 - No Power to Fuel Pump

Hi,

I need help re: the recent installation of my new Fuel Pump and Relay for a 1972 280 SE 4.5L V8

1) I disconnected battery prior to installation.
2) Installed new Fuel Pump and Fuel Pump Relay.
3) Car will not start.
4) Ran two long wires from Battery to Fuel Pump - Pump engauges and runs.
5) Checked No.4 Fuse on Fuse Box (Fuel Pump) checks out ok!
6) Put back old Fuel Pump Relay (Just in case new Relay was defective) Same results - No power to Fuel Pump wires.

Note: Old Fuel Pump did pressurize when Ignition Key turned on. However, the pressure varied and engine would cut off.

Does anyony know if there is another fuse and/or relay I have have somehow screwed up??

Thanks..
I need to get car running..

Have the same exact problem and out of clues. I'm afraid the pump I just ordered might not resolve the issue...hopefully it does. Anybody with ideas? Were you able to resolve the issue original poster sir?

Car stalled abruptly and now will only turn over and not catch on...enough fuel in system and ignition is fine...symptoms remarkably similar with above!

Thanks in advance.

Sam.

You should get short burst of voltage (one second) when first turning key to position 2, solid 12V when cranking, solid 12V when running. Have you checked that?

Thanks for the reply, I am not too sure about the initial short burst, but I am definately getting the full 12v under cranking. And running wires straight to the pump shows us that its working.

When pump is running does it develop pressure? Does engine start?

Fuel pump was faulty. Looked a lot like the original pump as well so I suppose its time had come. Replaced it with an Airtex Master pump and all is well now. Appreciate the feedback!

While messing around with the fuel pump relay I dislocated the cylindrical relay for the cold starting valve and it has been chipped away by the alternator fan. Have no idea whether that will affect it, the base with the connection is still fine, any advice would be welcome.

I'm having a similar problem on my w108 where I get a short burst of voltage (about 12v) and then the power cuts off. I tested the pump and it's fine and I replaced the fuel filter. The relay works as well. Any suggestions on what to test next?
