Turn Signal Switch Wont Hold

The turn signal switch on my 76 wont hold when i push it down or up to turn on the signals, I have to hold it while im driving and this sucks, does anyone know how to fix these?

The lobes on the assembly, not the stalk, wear out. You can take the stalk off the column with just a few screws, and then use a rat-tail file or a dremmel to deepen the dip on the assembly where the rollers attached to the stalk settle when you "set" it for turning. try posting in the w123 forum, since I am sure they would have pics. This is a common issue in older benzes, i did this in my w108 and a number of others over the years.

Just don't make too deep a valley for the roller or else it will be too hard for it to reset, so make baby steps when you grind the aluminum.
