1966 250s, won't start

My 66 250s will start sometimes and other times it will only start if you push the gear selector all the way up to left. Now a new problem has risen. It will not start even if I push the gear selector up. I have a hunch that I am dealing with a loose connection. I am new to the Mercedes world and would like some advice before I start poking around.

Thanks.

Looks like you may have a bad safety switch. Will it start in neutral?

It will not start in neutral either.

What Ike said -- probably a neutral safety switch.

On that old of a car, I would suspect shift bushings worn or gone. Too much slop, slack in the linkage. The fact you are pressing on the lever points to this.

Both seem to be plausible. Can I also say that the car dosen't always go into park when I put the lever in position. The car will roll until I take it out of park and shift it back in, this happens sometimes
