A car is worth as much you love it.

If you love it, get it a t the cost you are ready to spend and since no one ultimately owns a young oldtimer with profit in the formind do not worry for the loss as you are already in (economic) loss wanting a car of this age.

How much is your wife worth (to you)?
Do you love the car that much?
Get the point?

Get what you want not what other think you should get.

Wow, $5000 for that car without a close inspection? The W115's just don't hold their value as much as W123's do. It would be a rare gem if it didn't have rust in the car. They're nice but I would have to agree with going in at $2500 to $3,000 max. Chances are it will require $1000 worth of repairs to get it mechanically perfect.....unless the vac, CC, A/C and all that stuff works.

POS - No they didn't make a manual W115 300D.....not that I am aware of....but I hope to have one soon!

The asking price for the car is $5000, which is clearly too high. I think I could probably get it for $4000. Is that way too much? Am I crazy?
Walk, plain and simple. And you're right, they were all automatics, at least in the U.S.

mistake averted

Okay, if the verdict was not yet clear, I talked to the car's mechanic yesterday, and he told me that they've been working to fix a persistent water leak which soaks the rear carpet every time it rains. Good to know that -- especially for a Seattle car!

So this one's off the list. Thanks, everyone, for helping me come to my senses...
