crunchy brakes

1976 300D - My brakes make "crunchy" noise when I stop at low speeds and the car shakes. I have replaced the front rotors and pads but no help. Fluid level is full, cold or hot. Sometimes when I am stopped with the car in drive it will make the crunch noise on and off. If it's in neutral or allowed to creep forward the noise will stop. I had rear brakes checked at Les Schwab and they said they are fine. The brake light has been on ever since I had to ride the brakes down a long hill a few months ago. I am lost on what to do. Help?

Maybe a bad caliper?

Had the same crunchy/grinding noise in my '71 280s. When braking I would also get pulled to the right. The front passenger brake caliper was stuck.

You might want to also check the condition of your shocks. A weak shock on one side might cause that too.
