Timing Marks on 67 250SL

Hello all. We are timing a 250sl, and we have two sets of timing marks on the balancer. When we set the car to zero on the rear set of marks, the #1 piston is at top. At zero on the front set of marks, the #1 piston is slightly below the deck surface. Does anyone have any knowledge of what the second set of marks is for? Please advise.... Thanks, Brian @ SMAW

During the late 60s and early 70s, the euro version cars had an option for load leveling system. If the option was on the car, the pump made it impossible to see the timing maks, so they moved the pointer and produced balancers with two sets of marks. You need to use the correct marks for your application.

No thank you for the kind recognition. That is the reason I quit posting on another MB site after over 2000 posts. As a factory trained professional MB mechanic with 30 years experience, I'm happy to share what I've learned with enthusiasts. All I ask is a thanks now and then for taking my time. By the way I've learned alot from DIYs. I don't have much time for anyone who knows everything. I'm constantly learning. Thanks again.
