diesel motor shot, need parts

I have a 1972 mercedes benz 220 d. the car stopped running a few months back and a local mechanic who looked at it reported no compression in the #1 cylinder. He said it might be a burnt valve, but could also be a hole in the piston because when pressuring cylinder he heard air from the oil dipstick tube. does anyone have a good place for finding complete gasket kits for these motors. I have replacement parts but can't find any parts supplier except for my local mercedes dealer for the gaskets. Also does anyone have ideas of what may have caused this piston to burn a hole. Oil pressure and temp were ok at time of incident.

A 1972 220D is not a W123, but a W115, so I'm moving this to the Vintage Forum. Hopefully, you'll get a better response there.

Get a copy of Hemmings Motor News. Many parts suppliers advertise there. Have you tried places like NAPA (not ones like Autozone or O-Reily)? A search on the web should definitely come up with possibilities as well.

As far as the low compression, it might just simply be wore out and needs rebuilding. I would be extremely surprised if there was no compression at all in a cylinder. Surely he checked it with the valves closed. Did he check to make sure the valves were adjusted correctly? I doubt there is a hole in the piston. Could also be broken rings in that cylinder.

No offense, but why go to all the trouble and money for a 220D? Hell, when mine died I gave it to charity. Still see it now and then but I certainly don't miss it, downright dangerous the way it accelerated, or rather didn't.
