Winterizing an old MB

I live in Canada, and winter will soon be here with snow, slush and cold temperatures so I will soon have to store my 73 280C in my garage for the winter. My mechanic suggests the following: add 1 quart of automatic transmission oil to a full gas tank, disconnect the battery and dont touch it until spring! What do you think? Does anybody else do that (for those of you that live in rough climates!)

Thanks for your replies!

I never heard of putting a quart of ATF in the gas tank. Fuel stabilizer like Sta-Bil certainly, but I can't imagine what running ATF in the gas would do to your engine.

Anybody want to weigh in on this?

See the link below for the product. Just added some to winterize my lawnmower. Next spring it will start on the first pull, as my winterized snowblower just did this afternoon.

Use Stabil. That is what it is designed for. I have never heard of ATF being used.

This should help.
