Electronic ignition - any advantage?

I've seen some kits to convert vintage Mercedes to elctronic ignition (no points). Has anyone done this? Does it offer any great advantage? They claim much more accurate timing. The kit I saw cost around $200.

Dunnoabout the price, seem a lot but maybe for good quality one...

Electronic ignition makes better and stronger spark since there is no arc on platinum contacts thus creating better fuel economy and power increase. Not really significant power increase but maybe significant enough to install electronic ignition system.

If 200 bucks do not bother you when gone out of your wallet, go for it.
Make sure you put brand new top quality breakers too, that will be the last time you had to do it.

Always nice to replace mechanical devices with solid state ones but the impact will depend on your model. Anything from '70s onwards has a electronic ignition triggered by points so benefits will be less.

I converted points to EI on 74 VW Bug. One of the best decisions I've made for that car. It's really cumbersome if you have to keep adjusting points for a daily driver and somtimes threads will strip away on a little screw.

I didn't see any perf increase (we are still talking about 74 bug) but one less thing to worry about on a monthly basis. The conversion I had was straight forward and very easy.

I've done a Pertronix conversion on a couple of 6cyl engines and have been delighted with the new found reliability in starting and fuel economy gains.

If one is available for your car , take the plunge.
