1974 450slc "gold edition"

Hi all,
This is my first post on these forums but I have already been gathering a lot of good info here. I recently inherited a 74 450 slc and all the trim is in gold (stars, lettering, above wheel wells, and headlight eyelids). I heard that this is a "gold edition" and not many were produced. I was just wondering if anybody here knows anything about this, any information would be greatly appreciated.

I am interested in restoring this car which requires a good amount cosmetic repairs but the mechanicals are in good shape and it has only a little less then 80 000 kms. If this is not a special edition car in your opinion would the car be more valuable if it were restored to a factory state or as a custom job. By custom I mean custom interior, performance upgrades, and refinished in chrome.

Welcome aboard 450slc74! There is no "gold edition". Someone just pimped it out by having all that stuff gold plated. It was a fad for a while in the late 70s, early 80s. IMO, you're always best off to restore to original condition.
