1968 250 S... alternate engine?

my engine block just cracked and I am looking for another engine, but can't pay the full $5000 for a remanufactured one. I'm having trouble finding a used engine for my car, so can someone tell me.. would an engine from any (or many) other models of mercedes fit my car?

Have you looked through junk yards? Some of them participate in a national database of parts - maybe the local guy can track you down the engine you need.

Look for a 280S engine, used from 68 to 72.
