Mercedes Noob thinking about a 67 200D

Hey guys i am a mercedes noob who would like to buy a old mercedes as a secondary car. I have a old BMW already so all the work would be done myself. I have found a 1967 200D for sale local to me with some minor rocker panel rot but otherwise looks OK. I do not know if the car runs but i would assume it does by the way it is parked.

I just want to know what i should be looking for on this car before i buy, what i should be expecting to pay etc.

Most of these were manual and had no air. Rust is the main problem. If you find a good one, expect to pay $4-5,000. Economy was not as good as the 220 D. 1968 was the last year. The manual got 26 mpg highway. You would be better to find a 1980's era 190 D 2.2 for the same money.

1967 200d

Any body know about the 1967 200 D automatic trans? Mine won't shift out of 1st gear, is this a common problem?

I would expect to offer no more than $1500-2000 for a car with rust as most of these W110's do have it. They are VERY loud and very slow with 55hp when new. so if you're in a hurry to go anywhere or live in Kansas you're going to be seeing semis flash to pass regularly! Other than that they are very bone simple cars. The biggest thing is rust so you'll have to look into the frame and trunk and under the mats and anywhere there is metal. The engines may require repairs to vaccum pumps etc and whatever else so expect $1000 of repairs (if done in the shop)since it doesn't seem like it has been a daily driver.

1974 - W115 - 240D /8 - 4(M) OM617.910 + Turbo + 300D FW - Completed 7/8/10
