61 W111 Coupe Low Compression Eng
I just got my "Birth Certificate" from MB for my 1961 220SEb W111 Coupe. 42,000 original miles (actually 69,000 km's). A couple of interesting items noted in the original build spec:
Low compression engine 7.2:1
Suspension modified for poor roads
50 liter fuel tank
Car was originally ordered and sold in Argentina, them made it's way to Southern California in mid 60's. Car was fully resotred in mid 80's, except for the drivetrain, which has never been touched.
Does anyone know what Germany did to engines to lower the compression - is it just a matter of head deck height?
Since the car was in Argentina in the early 60's, I can understand the special ordering due to poor fuel quality and poor road paving.
