i'm new to this site
just bought a 1975 280CE...my first merc
drove it back 600k's...ran fine on the highway..crusing at 100-120km/hr without any drama
apparently it was running fine before...
then started getting problems as i reached the city..when the car is idling at the traffic lights....starts rattling and then stalls....as i accelerate..it splutters before kicking in...once it's crusing, no problems...
the car died that night and wouldnt start...took to a mechanic the next day...the points apparently were not put on properly and were loose and fried the points...condenser was ok..
so car starts now..but is still struggling to start and still splutters when stands-still...,....engine stalls when i'm at the lights...and struggles to kick in when accelerating
could it be a connection lead???..
fuel pump pressure ok...
the mechanic wants to change all the leads as not all the leads are original m-b ones....i'm not sure how important it is......and whether it is essential
i have little idea about auto-electrics...so i'm taking it to an auto-electrician...
any advise what to look for???? and is this a major problem (expensive)?
any advise will be greatly appreciated!!
