The Gods Must be Crazy

Happen to catch it on TV tonight. I think the last time I saw it was at least ten years ago. The Land Rover was almost a character in itself and left a lasting impression but little did I remember about the fleet of sleek silver W116's (450SEL?) outside the Presidential Palace where a botched coup takes place.

Charming film. I'd recommend it and if someone from the Vintage Forum could verify if it is indeed a W116, I'd be grateful.

Oh yeah. That movie was definitely fun. No one who sees it will ever look at a Coke bottle the same way again.

You're probably right about the honchos' Mercedes being 116s but meanwhile this snippet gave me a chuckle, trying to imagine a 240D as a chase vehicle [8D]

Great movie! I encouraged my kids to watch it and they enjoyed it too.

Are you guys familiar with 'Walkabout' starring Jenny Agutter? Highly recommended,stunning cinematography.

Marsden, you just revealed your age: half of the forum is going, "What is a coke bottle???"[:D][:D]

The sequel was a snooze-fest, but I really enjoyed the original. Tight rings and bottom end following a rebuild? Simple: just never shut the thing off.

Re: Jenny Agutter (DR's post) the only movie I remember seeing her in was as the nurse in the original "American Werewolf in London." Nothing like a girl in uniform. [;)]

Whoosh! 1971, eh? She must have still been quite young and, well, perky. I doubt it's at blocksucker, but if I find it, I'll give it a view.

I love me some Nicholas Roeg.

'Walkabout' was mesmerizing, 'Don't Look Now' atmospheric and mysterious, and of course, 'The Man Who Fell to Earth'. You know what? All three, just a little bit sad [:(]

Speaking of Coke bottle, I can also think of Bolero segment from "Allego Non Troppo." Based on your sense of humor and since you mentioned that you are a classical music fan, I highly recommend it.

I looked at that site too and I'm not too sure. Something makes me think that it is a W116 because of more stern looking impression made by upward slanting corner light enclosure, as in below.
<img src = "http://www.jan-kowalski.de/images/mercedes/w116-08.jpg" width = "300">

Corner lights of a W123 has a downward slant, making the base of the trapezoid longer than the top and more rounded, thereby giving a more softer impression.

Whichever they may be, they were good to look at.

yes, those are the only parts that register in my mind. In 'Coupling', the men worship Jenny Agutter from 'Walkabout' and I agree. In fact, I don't think I have caught the film in its entirety. I must see the film for the 'right' reasons. [:)]
