Smile Questions for mercmad6.3 and drew56cus

Hey mercmad6.3, how did your friend go about finding a car in the US? Was it an eBay purchase? Have been thinking about buying a parts car from the States.
And drew56cus, where did you find your $4K coupe? Cheers, James

Drew,as in the immortal words of the kiwi lotto winners family...you tinarse bastard!
I didn't think it would be that good! Art Love's 300SE needed a complete side replacing and our pricey friends at MB paint'n panel did the job.$$$$$$$$$$$,Not as dear as Wolfgang though :-))

James,I'm a member of the M-100 group of the MB club USA. my mate noticed the car in a posting on our website by 300SE.org. The RHD coupe was in the background of a shot of part of his huge collection of 300SE's.
He asked if it was for sale and before he knew it,he was the owner.Being RH it has little value in the USA although it has every option available when new. It's going to get a 6.3.

It was a family car that I wanted someone to keep in good condition.

I don't think that he sold it for parts...he seemed like a nice guy when we spoke on the phone.

I believe this is the missing car in question:

That makes me feel a little less of my fellow man. When I gave the car to him he said he was going to restore it to its original condition and keep it. If he was unable to do that I would have hoped that he would give (not sell) it to someone who would restore it.

Actually, I take back that last remark that I made. Obviously, the man who received the car from me as a gift put a lot of money into its partial restoration. He should be compensated for his time and money.

I am glad that the car was not sold for parts....and I am happy if the car will eventually be completely restored.

I would love to see photos of it when it is again 'new'.

I like how he put that he is the original owner in his ebay ad....

Beautiful 1968 Mercedes Benz 280se Coupe. w111 series. 55k verifyiable original miles. Original owner! This car is in very nice condition, but will need a replacement head for the engine as the original has developed a non-repairable crack. Dashboard has been disassembled to refinish wood. Car is complete (except head) and will not take much work to get it back on the road. Original leather seats in very good shape. Perfect headliner. Body is straight and solid, no rust issues on this car. Repainted original blue a few years back. Small ding on hood (size of dime) and some minor clearcoat scratches.
