Changing the Engine in a 1969 280 S

Hello to all MB owners.

I have a 1969 280S with the 6 Cyl engine. It is in excellent condition and runs very well. I would like to know if anyone has any experience in changing the engine / transmission. Currently is a 4 speed on the coloumn. What option do I have. Is there a particular MB engine is recommended. What is the most compatible and least expensive solution. I would apprecite any advice.

Thank you...
