My 1971 220D has started doing something that I can not figure out. The idel speed continues to increase and can not be lowered by means of the idle adjusting screw. If the car is under load, everything seems like normal. However, when you let it idle, it revs very high, then drops down to normal, then continues to repeat the up down routine. The car does not use oil. I have ordered parts to rebuild the vacuum pump, since there is a little but of oil in the lines leading to the intake manifold, but could it also be the injector pump be acting up? The car sat for 25 years and only has 84800 miles--nothing for one of these good old diesels.
My book says that if you attempt to adjust the Idle and there is no responce.....It's the vacuum line.
I'm not an expert, but I think you are on the right track.
Maybe some others have a responce for you too [:D]
Thanks for the information. I ordered the parts to rebuild the vacuum pump and hope that will correct the problem. The only other thing that I think it could be would be the pneumatic govenor. I have not found a rebuild kit for it yet, but have not check with the dealer.
