Fuses in engine bay, what are they for? '75 240D

Howdy folks,
I have reacently found some fuses in my engine bay, on both sides of it in little two fuse pods. Some were blown and I was wondering what the heck these were to. Could they be the cause of my heater fan not working? Windshield pump not working?
Thanks for any help.

The additional fuses are for items added later in the cars life which drew high amps and could not be tacked on to one of the existing fuses in the fusebox. The things I can think of are..
-Air-conditioning
-Electric fan (if air-conditioning fitted)
-heated rear windows
-power windows

hope this helps
