'76 W123 300D swap out for later Diesel ?

Hello everyone
I have been a regular reader of this well informed and helpful forum for many months now, recently I acquired a 76 300D immaculate 1 owner and 50K mils from new, and am keen to enjoy it as a daily driver.....

I do a lot of continental miles around Europe and would like to swap the motor for a later Diesel as long as its 120 plus HP and with an Auto box...I was thinking of the E300 6 banger from the W124 series as a potential swap...was wondering if any one here as any experience of such a swap or info on the best choice?

thanks in advance for advice and thanks for taking the time to read my post !

I think it's not so easy to swap the 0M603 into the w123 body.
You'll have to swap the wiring harness, transmission, differential, etc. Plus it'll probably be very hard to get everything fitted correctly.
What's easier to do is swap an 300D Turbo engine in it from the W123 series. It's got 125hp and 250nm torque. It was only sold together with the auto transmission. If you can find one (mercedes germany probably has a few in stock, these are brand new engines and not very cheap though), I'd say go for this option...
