Replacing water pump on a 1972 250

Hello.
I'm the happy new owner of a 1972 250 sedan (114 chassis; 130 engine). I've never owned a Mercedes before, but I wanted to get a 'project' car and I've always liked the looks on these things.
Anyway, it's in pretty good shape overall; however, I decided that I need to replace the water pump.
So far I have the radiator out (never done that before; not too hard). But now I'm having a hard time getting the fan off so that I can get at the water pump itself.
I have the Haynes manual and some funky old 'manual on a CD' that does not go into nearly enough detail. What am I missing? Any clues would be much appreciated.
Thanks,

Lyle

RE: Replacing water pump on a 1972 250

Congrats on the new Benz, I love my '71. As far as replacing the water pump you might check out the online repair manuals that are posted at the top of this forum. They might help you out a little.
