New to MB Cars, 1980 300 turbo diesel

Hi list,
My name is Mike. Im pretty new to MB Cars, but I have a good deal of experience with the trucks. Any way, my wife loves older Benz cars. She found a 1980 300 turbo deisel that she likes. It belongs to an older fellow that had it stored for the last couple years. But after he drained the fuel, it started up very easily, even in the cold (28) weather. It has 220 k miles on it and runs great. Doesnt smoke or heasitate. The body is in great shape. The interior is a litle ruff, but workable. And for $800.00 it seems like a decent vehicle. My question is what do you folks think about the car. Without putting it up on a rack, I can tell it needs shocks, also new seats would be good. And the rear deck (the area where the speakers are mounted)?? needs repair and fabric. Is there a place that I could get these things at a reasonble price, in the pacific north west? Well thanks in advance for your help, hope to chat more later.
Mike

RE: New to MB Cars, 1980 300 turbo diesel

As far as I know there were no factory 1980 300D turbodiesels, the turbocharged models started in 1982 I believe. Perhaps the engine was a transplant OM617.952 (turbodiesel) engine.

With that said, I would check the rest of the car for other modifications. As for parts, most cosmetic interior parts can be had at one of our sponsors, www.performanceproducts.com or you can always drop by your locak junkyard for hopefully better speciments. But that also does not overlook the possibility that you can restore those parts yourself.

You might also want to post in the W123 forum as this Vintage section is mostly for earlier models 1975 and below. A moderator will soon transfer this thread there.

Congrats and welcome![:)]
