center brake light help

For safety reasons, I am thinking about installing a center brake light on a 1971 280SE. Does anyone have any experience with this? Where to purchase the assembly? Which assembly to purchase? How difficult/easy is the installation? Any advice would be helpful.

RE: center brake light help

There was a center brake light on my coupe when I bought it. My first job on the car was to remove it. It was so ugly. Thank God the were no holes drilled through the trunk lid. It was spliced in the original wiring in the trunk. Here is the picture:

RE: center brake light help

I have installed them on the old W110 bodies (1960's), as their taillights are barely adequate by today's standards. Bought the kits from J.C. Whitney, which included a converter for import cars. Not hard to install at all, just had to tap into the brake wires. The type I got had double-sided tape so you could stick the light to the inside of the rear window (no drilling required). Just had to fish the wire through exisiting openings to the trunk. Whitney has several different styles to choose from.
