1969 220d purchase

There is a 1969 220d for sale here that looks nice. What are your thoughts on these as daily drivers? What kind of mpg could I expect with one of these? Are they too slow to get on and off the highway? Will it start in the winter (I am in Minnesota, where it does go below zero degrees Fahrenheit often).

Owner is asking $2,500. Says motor was rebuilt in last 5,000 miles. 135,000 miles on chassis. Is price too high?

I would appreciate your thoughts. Thanks.

Not too sure on mpg but I have bought one too and have heard reports of it being sluggish and they do suffer from rust, but that hasn't put me off, the guy I bought it off and lots of other readers say the engines are good on those babies.....

Running properly, about 28mpg around town, maybe 35 on flat highway. $2500 sounds a bit high unless you can confirm you have a good engine, little or no rust, good interior, good brakes, tires, etc, for that price. But, it makes an excellent daily driver. You do need a block heater for Minnesota winters, also make sure the glow plug system is operating properly. I think it would be well worth your while to spend $100 to have a good MB mechanic go over it before purchasing. I have a 69 220D and you're likely to find some age related problems. The MB mechanic can tell you about how much you have to put into it to get it up to snuff.

I have a 1970 220D and it gets a little hard to start at 30 Degrees.
I get only about 22 MPG in town.
Prolly needs a valve job.
This is the first winter for this car here in Indiana and the winters can be rather harsh here too, close to 0 degrees a lot.
It's really not worth that price he is asking tho, even if it's in Mint Condition.
Maybe $1500.00
The 220D is only about 60 HP,if it's a manual shift it's a little better on take offs.
The car is a nice ride tho...I like mine a lot.

Persistance is "KEY" !
