RE: Need Price Advice on 1966 Mercedes 250S
Collect as many Adverts of 108 250/280 cars as you find, from Ebay,Hemmings etc etc ,thus armed, aproach the owner with suggestion that perhaps the car is worth $500-$1000 tops because it has been sitting for a long time( bad for any car, especially mercs) and it will require front cross member mounting bushes and rear suspension torque arm bushes ,all these are service parts and most older mercs never seem to have the jobs done.It will need a complete recommisioning,so count on spending at least $2,000 to get it road worthy, but not restored(more bucks !!).Be polite, because the present owner knows it was your grand fathers car and naturally will force the deal in his favour whether you like it or not.
Be patient,To be seen to be in a hurry is to invite the owner to increase the price, because he will know you are desperate to get this car and save it.
Before you talk money ,ask the owner if it is for sale!!!.
