1968 280S/E

Ok this chick want to sell me her car for $500 and this is what she wrote.
"thanks for responding. the price of the car is $500. the interior is tan. it doesnt start because it got flooded-dual caroborator-so the stopper is stuck. i have a new car now and im not a mechanic, and my neighbors are assholes they keep TRYING to get it towed, but they can't. the tags are good till june06. old cars are a pain in the butt, you have to baby them, did you get the picture??? sorry it took so long for me to respond.thanks"

I belive its a W108. She didnt really specified the model number beside its a 280. From what she wrote me it is carb so it seem more like a 280S. But in 1968 There were no S only SE. She doesnt know about car "i have a new car now and im not a mechanic". So I hope I can get a great deal on it.

About that carb- "the stopper is stuck" I dont get what she mean buy that. I'm not really a carb expert event thought I took one apart and put together back in high school. I didnt really remeber that much. I hope its F/I.
Wow this is a long message.
What do you think of this. Im going to drive there in couple of day and check it out and see the inside.

could be a stuck float or fuel bowl valve. probably just needs a good cleaning and rebuild.

Performance parts for w126, r/c107, w201, m117, m119, m102, m104 and few other things.

Reproduction 17" Penta wheels coming soon.

RE: 1968 280S/E

and it will be a S because there are S's and SE's in all models up to the last of the 116's .By "stopper" she probably means "CHOKE".in which case it's an electric device, remove it completely and clean the plugs, actually replacing them would be better. It will most likely start .But in all honesty ,the seller sounds like she is putting on a Dumb act in order for you to feel sorry for her and buy the car she ruined by abusing it.

RE: 1968 280S/E

Bill, some of the worst mercs I have bought came from seriously wealthy people, who had either inherited a grandparents car and hated it,or bought a classic merc on a Whim ,decided that getting dirty looking after itwas not fun and again..hated the car or ,rich people get Rich by being mean with the cash and spending money maintaining a car is not on the Agenda so the car is run until it stops and is then put in the garage and either forgotten or put up for sale at some ridiculous figure or put on Ebay.
I would try offering less for the car ,and as a bargaining point ask if she would agree to get the car running by getting a mechanic to tune it....those that ask get fed best remember[:)]

RE: 1968 280S/E

OK I found out that it was a 1991 W114 250. Dual carb. No I dont know how to work with carb, wish I took the time in High School and learn. I really dont want to pass this oppurtunity to own a classic Benz. The interior are in ok condition with no rip but lines. Only if the car run I would of snatch it right away.[:)]
