Delayed radio turn-off on 1972 250C?

The switched +12V wire that powers the stereo in my car stays "hot" for 15-30 seconds after I turn the car off - is this normal? I didn't see any mention of it in the owner's manual.

I've seen delayed accessory power in newer cars that will maintain power to the radio/power windows/etcetera for a certain amount of time with the ignition off, or until you open a door, but this it the first time I've seen it in a 30+ year old car.

At first, I thought it was a function of the Alpine CD player that a previous owner had put in the car, but I've moved the Alpine over to another car that I'm getting rid of, and the Alpine behaves "normally" in the other car. In addition, the JVC deck that I've now installed in the Benz has the same delay, so it's something in the car's wiring, not in the stereo itself.

Funny you should post this. Ever since I got my 560Sl, The radio will still play for about 20 seconds after the key is turned off and removed. Usually, I can already be out of the car and walking away before it shuts off. Funny thing is, If anything is plugged into the cigarette lighter and drawing power, like my MP3 player, then the radio shuts off immediately when the key is turned to off.

I never have given it much thought...

Is this not normal? My 300 SE also plays its radio for about 10 seconds or so after the car is off and I’m still climbing out. I assume the amps stay juiced for that long although the current has stopped.
