Looking for an engine for my 240D

I'm looking for an engine for my 240D. Am I limited to one like the original or will a 300TD work?

RE: Looking for an engine for my 240D

You are limited to the chassis you have. If you have a W115 you have three diesel engines available: 220, 240, 300. You cannot use any of the engines from the W123 for they will not fit. The 240 you are familiar with and the 300 (off the 240D 3.0) is a five cylinder non turbo engine.

There are new engines available for your car. The engines carry a warranty and include the injection pump. Mercedes-Benz has discounted the engines that are left by a couple of thousand. You must have it installed at an authorized dealer for the warranty to be valid. If you are planning on keeping the car, you might want to check with your dealer to see what kind of deal they have. Transmissions are also discounted.[:)]

I should have been more specific... I have a 78 240D, so it's the 123 body.

RE: Looking for an engine for my 240D

if you are in the los angeles area, there is a guy on craigslist that is selling his car that was totaled by a drunk driver (so sad to see a benz pass on to the other side...[:(]) but he is selling the car for $1000 although, you MAY be able to get him to lower it some. check it out if you are in that area. if not, craigslist in your area is a good place to look. there are people "parting out" their cars and sometimes you can find some GOOD parts that just need a "new" benz to call home.
heres the web site...

ps, i JUST noticed that its a 300d diesel engine, but he said that it CAN be used in other benz models
good luck!
