Will a 300SEL 3.5 A/C condensor fit a 3.5 coupe?

[8D]Hi,
Does anybody know if the 300SEL 3.5 A/C condensor is the same as a 3.5 coupe condensor? Loking at pictures of each, the connections are in exactly the same location.
I know the condensor from a 280SE 4.5 will physicaly install in the space but the connections are different than the original 3.5 coupe condensor.
Thanks,
Tony

It may. Both cars used the same units, but there are differences based on VIN and AC brand.

The inner frame behind the grille is the same part,so the condensor will bolt into place. Most important though is where the inlet and outlet ports are.If you are doing a A/C rebuild you will need to change the receiver dryer and hoses anyway so just get the ends altered to suit the condensor.

Thanks for the info. I bought the unit and it is the exact same unit in every respect as the original 3.5 condensor. I am adding A/C to a car that did not have it. I am having it professionally set up with new hoses, rec/dryer/ expansion valve, etc, etc.

Tony, what kind of evaporator are you using? Did you buy original Behr? And which receiver/dryer are you using? Part #, brand?

Thanks, Vilius

Are you going to be using R-12 or R-134? Since you're basically installing a new A/C system from the ground up, you can go either way, but you're not going to get as much cooling if you use R-134 with the stock condenser.

RE: Will a 300SEL 3.5 A/C condensor fit a 3.5 coupe?

Hi,
Since this is not a show car and I don't want to spend $2K+ on a Behr unit I am installing a
Frigiking unit from a late 60's coupe. If I ever come across a reasonably priced Behr I will change it out. The Frigiking blows more air and is quieter than the Behr anyway. I cut the carpeted panel to fit aroung it and it blends in really well.
I'm buying the reciever/dryer from Mercedesparts.com.
I will discuss the refrigerant options with my A/C man when I go in to get it set up. He has many years experience setting up custom systems and I will go with his recomendations. When I get it set up I will post the results. I will probably be next summer beore I do since I have many other projects going on the car.[8D]

3.5

It might not be a show car but it puts on a show all the same. It looks a beauty.

Any chance to see some interior pictures with the A/C in? I bought a Kuhlmeister unit from early w111 cars and going to put it in my coupe.

Thanks, Vilius

Hi,
Here's a few pics of the unit. I bought 2 units and made one good unit out of them. I cut the carpeted panel to fit around the unit. I have all the major componets of the system but I need to get the hoses made and the system evacuated and charged. That probably won't happen until next summer.
