RE: air ride for my 280
Congrats on your ownership of the 72 280. These older Benz's are awesome. It is tragic most people in the world do not know how amazingly great they ride. They simply look at them and think new. The truth is in the older Benz's. The ride and quality is simply the best out there!
I would recommend sticking as close to the OEM stuff as possible. You'll encounter more problems trying to fit other manufacturer's stuff on your car than is worth it. Most car mechanics and shops don't know Benz's. I strongly recommend you stay away from them. Don't trust anyone who says they can do it. Find a real German mechanic who has a yard full of Benz's. Everyone else is utterly incompetent and you'll pay the price, both in parts, labor, and damage.
