You need to buy the correct Bosche/mercedes parts,they have a resistor in the cap end and the plug end,The wires themselves are solid core,If you use a pertronix you will have to go over to the carbon string type to avoid magnetic flux around the leads.
But if you use the carbo type only you will lose power because the spark "life" is too short.Resistance gives a LONGER spark.
Before buying new parts,get the wires checked ,if the insulation is OK ,you may only need to buy the ends if they have more than 5ohms resistance.I have 30 year old leads in my 300 sel and they work fine.
