RE: Vintage MB owners' average age?

I'm 35 now but bought my first Benz when I was 18, a 8 year old W123 200. First 'classic' (25 years old) was a W114 230/6 limo when I was 20.

RE: Vintage MB owners' average age?

I am 49 and got my 1st MB last month. 73 450sl, it is all torn apart now, in the 1st phase of restore.
I sold my 75 vert vette but still have my wifes 78.
I told my wife that when the 450sl is done and she drives it she will want me to sell her vette, then I would like to put her in an early 230sl. Cheers

RE: Vintage MB owners' average age?

I'm 50, got my '75 about five years ago. Always had VW's, Porsches, Bimmers, etc. Seem to be obsessing over the W123's lately.

RE: Vintage MB owners' average age?

im a 25 year old fem that just bought her first benz a little over a month ago. what fun it is to drive! i have a '78 240d that once i fix up the few things i need to fix, i want to have it converted to run on veggie oil. the pic below is with my head (photoshopped) into the car window. so far i am pleased and this is the best $800 spent on a car!!!

RE: Vintage MB owners' average age?

BY THE WAY... i forgot to mention, that i bought it on 2-17-06, for my birthday. this was my birthday gift to myself. and another note about the veggie oil conversion...when i DO go through with it, this car will pretty much be my "stick of butter" LOL
pretty much looks like one, a stick of butter that is... [:D]
i have been seeing more and more of these cars in the LOS ANGELES area. THEY ARE MAKING A COMBACK!
i think that its not as "flashy" as the newer models that say "look how much money i have" but are more classy and sophisticated of someone who tresures the cars of old. that has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with the topic, but i thought i would throw that in for fun! [:I]

RE: Vintage MB owners' average age?

I'm 18 and the only car I have ever owned(since 16) was my '86 190E, still runs nice[:)]

If it jams, force it. If it breaks, it needed replacing anyway.

RE: Vintage MB owners' average age?

i'm 21. for the last five years i've owned nothing but audi's and vw's (late 80's early 90's models)... then one day last september my 74' 450SE dropped in at my shop and I fell in love, found out it was for sale... wells fargo was liquidating a deceased couple's assets. the car sat for ten years or so in La Jolla then was shipped up here to Portland (the car was registered in Oregon) and a local shop went through the whole thing. they paid about $3200 to get the car running right again. wells fargo wanted $3450 for the car so I put my 92' GTI on craigslist and vwvortex.com.... got a $200 non-refundable deposit in my paypal account the next day. the buyer came down from seattle and purchased the car two days later for $3400(paid $2900 for the car 6 months earlier). I'm looking to get another 90-92 Jetta GLI so I can save on gas and stop putting miles on my 450. I've really fallen in love with classic mercedes since that point.

RE: Vintage MB owners' average age?

I'm 26. I'm no stranger to German automobiles. I've owned VW's since I was 16. Currently I still own 3, a '56 Ghia, '56 Single Cab, and a 78 Westie. When I moved to California 4 years ago I got my first job out here at a VW shop that specialized in lowering busses. Then I got a job for a reknown Porsche 356 restorer. It got me through school earning a degree in Photography. With my photography degree in hand I got myself a job working for a mortgage broker [;)]. One day, driving at a good clip the breaks on my Van stopped working (I drive all day for my work). Which brings me to the point of this story. I remembered that my friend, a hot-rod builder, had a 77 280se sitting in his backyard that he stopped driving because he had too many cars. He also had removed all smog and emmission control features. Since he didn't need it anymore and the registration would only be good until the following year we agreed that $300, which would cover his cost of parts he had in it, was a fair price. I fell in love. It handles like a GTi and cruises like...well...a Mercedes. Fast forward 8 months to now. I got 4 months left on the Reg. before it needs to be smogged, which ain't happening, so I need to find a replacement. Last week I purchased a 79 280CE, fully smogged, and I love that one even more. I'm addicted...anyone want a VW? I'll get some pics up as soon as I can. If you are still reading, thanks and I apologize [:D]

For those of you as old or younger than my 300 D, why classic MBs?
