Restore this Coupe??

I have seen this coupe for sale on Ebay, which looks alright, and is going pretty cheap:

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Mercedes-Benz...QQcmdZViewItem

Considering that it doesn't have original paint, as well as a few other issues, I'm not sure if it would be a great candidate for an original restoration...

I have seen a few of the 'fintail' coupes that have been done with the m100 donk, and they are awesome looking cars, probably my dream vintage mercedes (see attached pic).

They normally employ the 300se coupe. Would it be possible (doable) to do the same with a 220se? I was under the impression that the 220se and 300se were only different in their engine, suspension and trim?

Any thoughts, or experience??

I think, if you have the funds, the white one is a decent resto candidate.

I agree -- it doesn't look too bad...

RE: Restore this Coupe??

To clarify me first post I am considering three options:

1) Leave it alone.

2) Restoration to its original spec/condition.

3) Restoration/Conversion, with a large MB V8 (m100) and black paint (just like the photo of the black one).

My thinking in regards to the third option is that although this is a coupe, it is not a 300se, or the later 280se, so its not 'as' collectable, and hence it wouldn't be as much of a crime to modify it a little. Please, no offence meant to any 220 owners[:I]

Thats one of Karl Middlehuaves Projects!,he also has that awsome convert, which is So fast that he ripped the roof off on a high speed run[:D][:D]
His latest project was a W100 600 pickup.
If you have the cash M-100 is a good way to go.But if cash is not flash go the m119 route. This is a M-100 courtesy Neil at Star motors.Thats Karls coupe in the background

RE: Restore this Coupe??

Oi!,I just realised you are in Queensland,I'm in Brisbane,if you need to buy a car let me know via here as i know of of at least one 6.3 which has had a lot money spent on it nbut hasn't been driven for at least 14 years.so will needs lot work on the engine to make it reliable.
'I know of a GOOD coupe in Marooka which has also been off the raod for many years and has been offered for sale occasionally.I gave the owner a fuel injection pump acouple of years back as it wasn't running too good(he at least starts it) .Again let me know if you are interested.I also have LOTS of W111-W112 parts.

RE: Restore this Coupe??

Ahhh, sorry, I was trying to put that first pic in my first post, but it wasn't working.

You are of course correct, it is a w112, 1967 300se, not in any way a CE.

I do not own the black coupe, as mentioned by mercmad, it belongs to Karl Middelhauve http://www.mbgrand600.com.

What I would like to do is restore a coupe , be it a 220,250,280 or 300, to look something like Karl's, or in fact yours, which looks great.[:)]

My 280CE is the far less romantic w123 variety, although still a great set of wheels...
