Tranny fluid change on old mb

You guys think it's a good or bad idea to change the tranny fluid on a 67 250se auto?

I have been told twice now, not to do it. I have heard horror stories about those who have changed the tranny fluid on an old car, only to have the tranny go out the next day.

So, whatcha think? Change the fluid and filter or just leave it and top off when necessary?

Changing the fluid is usualy not an issue. Using a flushing agent usualy does cause issues.

Trans on Mercs should be done at least every 20,000.There is a 5 mm bung on the torque convertor, drain that, change the filter in the trans, and if you have access to one, blow the trans cooler lines through with gasoline.thats the merc recommeneded way of doing it.All Merc trans use Dexron ATF 2 .
I use Dexron 3 and find it works brilliantly .
Neglecting your trans is a sure way to burn out the wallet[xx(][xx(].
while you are serving the trns check the conditon of the shifter mechanism ,replace the bushes in the shift rod if worn and check the rubber hoses on the vacuum line to the modulator. If the flex disc has cracks ,think about replacing that too.If that rear mount is oil covered and sagged ,replacre that and you will have a nice healthy trans to last another 30 years.[:D][:D][:D]
