Newbie here, a few questions
Hello all, I just bought a 67 250s, great body and paint, engine sounds good (when it was running) and tranny feels strong but shifts hard. Changed engine oil, and axle fluid, lubed suspension.
The car ran great everyday for a week, then I let it sit for a week and then she would stall every time I put into gear or come to a stop.(auto tranny) I was running close to the R on the fuel gauge. A bit after filling up she ran great, no stalling. After sitting for about 4 hours, she didn't want to start, I noticed one of the set screws on the push rod for the choke flap was loose, so I tightened it up, no go. Anyway, to shorten this all up, I pulled the plugs, it had platinums which were BLACK, I bought some NGK hotter burning plugs to replace, new rotor, dist cap, points, and condenser.
I have installed the plugs, dist. cap, and rotor and got it to start once but it died after raising my foot off the gas, I gapped the plugs to 0.031, is this right? I bought a haynes manual, but it only goes back to 68 through 72 and lists models 230, 250 and 280, no 250s. Is the 67 250 similar to a 68 model se, or what?
Also, I have discovered that to adjust the points, I need a dwel meter, with which I measure the dwell angle while the car is running. How the $%@! do I adjust the dwell angle if I can't even start the motor?
Any advice or info would be greatly appreciated.
This looks like a good forum, I'm glad I found you all.
