Sunroof quit after removal of syn-con top

[V]Hello, newbie here with a query! My sunroof all of a sudden quit sliding back(76 450SE)after removing a simulated convertible top.I was extremely gentle during the removal and can't for the life of me figure what happened. It will go back only 1-2 inches and then jam.To get it back closed,I have to assist with one hand on back of sunroof and other on switch.Any ideas?

RE: Sunroof quit after removal of syn-con top

Does it jam shut quietly or make grinding/banging sound?
The motor is in the back behind the spare wheel, and is the same as a window regulator motor. There is a clip bracket on the motor which should have a little bolt like device that fits the wheel brace, you slip this chrome plate device into a hole in the roof motor and wind the roof closed.
If the roof jammed quietly you may have peices of your vynyl roof caught in the tracks, open the roof slightly and shine a torch back into the roof space along the tracks and see if you can detect any foreign stuff in there.
If it makes a noise ,the cable needs to be changed.114,109's etc have the same cable so it's not expensive, just a real pain to change.
If you think the cable is OK,the gears in the motor may have stripped, you can source another motor from any merc
wreck of the same era ,they are the same as the window motors. The gears however can be difficult to source, although you can buy them new.

Are you a member of the M-100 group? We have lots of 6.9 owners all over the world who are continually posting questions about how to keep their cars running. If not,why don't you register your 6.9 on our registry so we can endevour to keep a track of the remaining cars.http://www.m-100.cc

Actually the $50 is very cheap becuase, not only do you get access to the members only section where there is lots tech stuff, which you cannot get any where else, especially here, but we also have a great magazine which has lots of info about the M-100 cars.As you are no doubt aware the dealers of today are pretty ignorant of the needs of these cars and many "technicians" have no idea what so ever of things like the dry sump.
Give it some thought, but you are most welcome to post questions on the board.
