66 250S: auto trans won't shift out of drive-poss DIY fix?
When I move the shifter, you can hear a sort of scraping sound, like the linkage is just not moving anything. Happened right in the driveway -- could not get into reverse or any other gear. Now, since I turned it off, cannot restart because there is no Park. Argh.
Have tools and reasonable adroitness. Can we do anything?

Sounds like the rod from the shifter to the trans has fallen off,it's onl;y held on with a clip and in all likely hood the plastic bush has worn out .You should be able to see where it's come off when you look up in the tunnel.USE JACK STANDS so you don't get squashed.
