Vacuum Advance - 114 (or any other straight 6)

Hi all,

I have a unimog with the M180 engine. Someone has converted it to 12V and changed the dizzy to one from a 114 series between 1968-76.

Apparently they do work fine.

However, the Unimog only had a mechanical advance, so the advance pipe has been left hanging.

Can anyone offer advice on the best way to fit it - I haven't found a suitable port on the manifold and have no idea where it should go. I'm fairly well equipped for most metalworking operations here.

Thanks in (vacuum) advance ;)

jim

Hey Jim,

If there is no vacuum port, then you can either drill & tap the manifold and create your own, or you can try to find, or retrofit your mechanical advance to the current distributor.

Drill and tap it is then. Does it matter where? I'd imagine near the branch.

It'll be interesting to see how she runs when tuned up to a 7:1 compression ratio!

Cheers,

jim

Soulds about right. off a branch.

Just make sure you take it off first don't want to suck any filings in.
