62 200seb, should there be a hood pad?

My 62 220seb has a pretty ratty piece of sound-proofing material on the firewall that I want to replace. While doing that, I was wondering if there should also be a hood pad.

There is nothing there, except a couple of metal straps that go from front to back under the hood. They look like they are suppose to support a pad.

Anyone if the car originally had a hood pad?

If there is supposed to be one, does anyone know where I can get one? (or material to make one).

My old 220Sb never had one, to my knowledge. It had the two metal straps, as you described. I doubt that hood pads were standard on these cars.

As you say, there is some ratty material on the firewall, but your car does predate Mercedes implementation of hood insulation.
