Cam job parts?

The cam lobes on my 1976 450sl have worn badly on the right side - not uncommon, I know. The car has 135,000 miles (985 engine) and I bought it recently from someone who had it sitting around for a few years.

What options do I have on camshafts? All the parts stores list a "Camko" brand so I assume OEM isn't available.

Would anyone suggest finding clean used cams in a salvage yard?
Or how about custom cams? I don't need extra performance, but I'd like to put quality parts in.

Car runs great on the highway, btw, a bit rough at idle. but otherwise pretty and in good shape.

Thanks for any thoughts

RE: Cam job parts?

Is the cam lobe severely flattened with a very sharp edge? Try a number of internet parts jobbers, such as autohausaz.com, *.com. Do a google search (perhaps you already have). You've posted finding a quality cam here, also try the forum ***************** (which is sponsored by Fastlane, a MB parts supplier. My guess is that there is more than one brand for cam replacement for your model. A picture would be very helpful. Forum member's might jump on me for this suggestion, perhaps well earned, but if you decide to keep your present cam consider lightly filing the sharp edge which will be easier on both the cam and rocker.
