This is a 6.9 currently for sale on ebay. I love how he removed the side chrome moldings- I think the car looks much better without them. Also, it looks like he threw some 126 wheels on it. The best part is that it looks lowered, but I bet it is unjust enrichment caused by a quirky 6.9 suspension! Anyway, just a nice looking car, wanted to share. I hope mine will look this good when I am done restoring it!
Wow very interesting...very W126-ish...yet the C pillar def looks pre 1980...what year is it? I have a W126 280se want those wheels for my whip! ...euro headlights?

Lovely! Looks more W123-like, but definitely a huge improvement over the original look. [8D] How did you fill in the holes? I would assume they had holes along those trimlines to attach them.
The Benz definitely has a Rolls look about it. I am not sure about the holes for the side moldings- I assume there are no holes, and maybe they were just strongly affixed. I will find out soon when I pain my car. Does anyone have a guess as to how large those rims are? The low stance of the car makes them look huge! I know they are probably 15", but do you think they could be 16"? I wanted to get 17" monoblocks, but those 126 rims look GREAT!
Those are 15 inch rims used on the 126, 201, 124 and 107 cars in the mid to late 80s. It looks good but the classic 116 lines call for an original restoration with side moldings and the steel rims and wheel covers.
Striker,
If you are intersted, I have a US 116 body. 1980 450 SEL. Coco Brown, Bembo interior. It is in Great Shape. AC was converted with new compressor to R134. Exhaust was new 5 years ago. I installed new drivers side spring and horse hair, plus new horse hair for the passenger and rear seat last year. I installed a new Bosch fuel injection system. I can send you some picture if you would like. I have owned the car for 15 years. I drove it to work today. Sunny day in NJ.
Thanks

Hi. Total Newbie here. I just acquired a 77' 450 SEL (4.5) and am starting on the road to restoration. It's my first Benz and my first ever restoration project so I'll be looking to the experts for lots of advice. Here's the general scoop:
It runs well, the engine is very strong (no leaks or problems found), the body is good for an east coast US car with some rust at the rear body panel and some small holes in the front floor pan. I've been told i need new cat converters and muffler and the steering/suspension needs new shocks and an idler arm.
The rear seat springs are totally shot and need replacing and the original covers/carpets could use alot of TLC....
i know i'm dumping alot out at once here, but i am actually pretty excited about starting this. I welcome all advice about how and where to start and any recommendations for finding parts at reasonable prices.
Also, please let me know if i should be posting this in another part of the forum.

RE: This is what I want my 116 to look like
Well, good luck in restoring your ride!
When my old man got his 1978 450sel 6.9 he got it with a broken crank and he couldn't find that part except in jeddah-saudi arabia!
and it costed him about 4000BD(bahraini dinars) to revive it back to life and that would be about 13,000US dollars.
and later on whenever he needed a part he wouldn't be able to find it as it would be a DEAD ITEM (quote from MB-Stuttgart) and the parts he found were just too expensive!
Can i find any sites or any help for some spare parts for the 6.9 for future refrences?
