Differences among W111s

I recently bought a '62 220seb convertible and am getting ready to pull it out of storage for the summer (Whoo Hoo!). In looking at similar models, I've noticed that some have chrome molding running down the sides and/or around the wheel wells. I've also noticed that some have fog lights or driving lights on the front bumper and some do not.

Is there any logic behind which models have which options? Were moldings and lights available on all models?

'83 380SE Euro (sold)
'62 220SEB Convertible
'58 180D (sold)
'85 300D (warm weather daily driver)

RE: Differences among W111s

Both things you mention were NOT factory items but aftermarket extras.Driving lights were available when your car was new,Either by Hella or Bosch.Neither are available new but if you check ebay for 6.3 items ,they look the same etc but are a few years newer.
Wheel Arch trims as accessory items were chrome plated brass. No one makes them anymore liker this, but polished stainless ones are available from Adsitco.com
W112 300SE had a wheel arch trim, but it was a polished and anodised peice that was very thin and looks really good. This the best site for your car with miles of info[:D]http://heckflosse.nl/

RE: Differences among W111s

Actually the 300SE coupes did have factory fitted chrome arches and side moldings but I'm not sure if these were available as extras on the other models. I had a set of chrome arches on my 220SEb when I bought it (still have them) and they are indeed chrome on brass.
The later W111s also had rubber bumper strips like the W108s.

My '71 3.5 has chrome wheel arches and they are heavy chrome plated pieces also. They are not the thin stainless ones sold now so they must be old. The later model US 108, 109 and 111 cars had amber round turnsignals above the bumper(some people think they are fog lights).[8D]

RE: Differences among W111s

My 63 111 cabriolet had small yellow bullet lights between the headlight and the grille that were supposed to operate as turn signals I believe. Since my car also has the European headlights with built in turn signal lights, I removed the bullet lights when I had the car repainted. I prefer the present look now.
