Shifting issue in my 76 300D

Hello all, newb here with a question about my 300D. It shifts kind of high in the RPM during normal driving, and the shifts are also pretty hard. I understand that I can make adjustments to my modulator to soften the shifts, and to the bowden cable(?) to change the shift timing. Could anyone point me towards some sort of directions on how to do this on my car? One other issue is during expressway driving, it doesnt seem to ever hit 4th gear. At about 65mph it seems to be revving awfully high. Thanks in advance for all help offered, I greatly appreciate it.

RE: Shifting issue in my 76 300D

Check ALL the vacuum lines to the auto, check your linkage for excess play and replace any worn bushes. That will assist in making it change into top.Try pulling the fuse for the kick down,It won't kick down, but if the switch is stuck it will change into top.
Modulator has a vacuum line running into it,theres a plastic cover, you need to clean it first with brakeclean aerosol, remove the cover and there is a key like thing under it.you turn it clockwise or counter clockwise to soften shifts or make them harder. But it is a last resort.fix the vacuum lines etc first.
