Is that a factory Four Speed? or have you converted it with a 108/109 box.It must be one of the very few 116's in the world with a manual trans.[8D][8D][8D][8D][8D]
Very nice car by the way![:D]

Very nice, must be a blast to drive. I found a 280SE of the same model with a 4 speed in a wrecking yard not too long ago, judging by mercmad's response I should have bought it[:o)]

RE: '78 350 SEL 4-SPEED MANUAL! Yee haaa!

Yes, she is the very few in the world :)

She is factory spec '78 350 SEL 4-speed manual, except for the following:

15" Merc rims from W123
Rear head rest from 6.9
Non-period radio/cassette player
and 70's York AirCon system (we NEED it its 38 C with 100% humidity here in Malaysia) :P

Other than that shes' factory spec, and she WAS NOT restored, she is as it came out of the factory in '78. Heres her chassis no. if you wanna check hehe.

Cheers from Malaysia.

You have a good dealer net work there too[:)]
Do you have any worries with rust?
I live in Brisbane So I know all about humidity, especially this year with 35* av temp and up to 70% humidity with no rain.HOT!!.
Does your aircon run R12 or r134A.?

RE: '78 350 SEL 4-SPEED MANUAL! Rust worries?? Nah...

Hi again,

Yeah you bet i worry about the rust! but then again, even though i drive her rain or shine, thunder or hurricane, always wash her up after a drive and rinse properly. Add to that a good close garage... you should be good :P

About the aircon, it was added in early 80's, so you know what kind of refrigerant its using... R-12... luckily its still "legal" to use Freon here in Malaysia.

Cheers from Malaysia.

RE: '78 350 SEL 4-SPEED MANUAL!

Hi again,

Yeah R12 heaven it is :)

On another note, I was just wondering if anyone had came across a 280SE, I believe it was a W108 from late 60's early 70's that had the "Four-on-the-tree" gears, thats 4-speed MANUAL on the Steering Wheel. (the Americans had 3-on-the-tree not long ago :P)

My aunt had it ages ago and being a non-mercedes enthusiast she is, sold it to a dude for about Malaysian 6000 (thats USD1500!) back in the 80's.... errr... STUPID!

PS: What S-Class came before W116? The 108 right?

Hi,
I used to own a 250SE with a 4 on the tree. I now own a 280SE 3.5 V8 Coupe with factory 4 speed, 16x8" wheels and 3.27 rear axle. A lot of fun to drive.
