Clutch pedal stay down and will not work

I have a 240D 1979 manual.
Yesterday I wanted to use my car but when I tryied to put it in gear : first, the clutch pedal went to the floor very easily and stayed there.
second, I could not get it in gear.
I'm writing to you from Québec city, where it is actually -25 degrees Celcius.
Could the cold weather caused that problem ?

Do you know what could be my problem ?
Please answer me as soon as possible.

Thank you.

RE: Clutch pedal stay down and will not work

I have a similar problem on my 220, but I havent looked into it yet; will be fixing this weekend.

I think it could be a leak in the servo, or possibly the master cylinder gone. First check if there are any leaks anywhere; that would indicate there is either a burst hose or a cylinder leaking. I would expect the cold is a factor in it failing, however just as an acceleration of a rubber component perishing, rather than the initiation of the failure

If I come across any info that might be useful this weekend, I will let you know

RE: Clutch pedal stay down and will not work

The hose from the slave cylinder to the pipe mounted on the chassis is kinked. Loosen the pipe to hose connection and let the hose settle, then retighten.

Not part of the in-crowd since 1952. It's BRAKES not breaks. You break a bone, use brakes to stop your car. /rant
