1968 280S transmission???
I recently aquired a 1968 280S Merc, not really a restored car its been threw alot of hands,i only purchased the car to tinker with really,i love german cars, and needed a W108 to become aquanted with,so everything on the car is in decent shape, the crankcase ventilator blows alot out the top of the valve cover,so it must be having a pretty good bit of blow by,so theres no real hope of driving the thing thousands of miles, but as i said before she's just a tinker car. The real question i have for anyone who is familiar with these models is the transmission, it will not pull out on any incline whatsoever,i mean a very shallow grade, but once you get it rolling it shifts up and down very smoothly, and doesnt hesitate or slip at all(before i get to far its the 4 speed auto floor shift)but if you attempt to climb a hill or do anything other than doodle around on a level grade it will just set there and idle, and if you attempt to accelerate any the engine will die,i am currently rebuilding the carbs as they were very clogged and out of adjustment, one local man at a german only garage, very reputable they only service Porsche's and the like, told me that the carbs being that out of whack on an early auto could be the only problem. But knowing better than to accept only one opinion, i am trying to determine if anyone has had a similar problem,i welcome any advice, and any help will be greatly appreciated, thanks for your time.
