Hey all... I have a '72 280SE 4.5 with fairly serious sound. I was originally going to put the radio in the glovebox. I even had a sacrificial glovebox which I intended to cut a hole in the back of. The depth of any radio vs the location of the defroster ducts left me wanting for a better solution. I ended up replacing the factory radio. I added two amps in the trunk bolted to the back of the trunk (behind the rear seat. I have four speakers plus a sub. In the rear are two 6x9s plus the sub. I used factory speaker locations and grilles, so it doesn't look odd from above. In the front, I used 4" in factory housings (with a little work). All in all, the radio looks a little out of place ( but one could effect that with enough effort), but otherwise it all looks good and sounds good. 700 watts of sound! And so far, no alternator issues! : )
