Lowered W114 (Australian Spec)

This particular Merc is not mine, but upon spotting it out of the corner of my eye earlier this evening my time, I couldn't resist taking some happy snaps.

It's quite nice; one that I would not be averse at all to buying if ever it came up for sale. I'm not altogether a fan of the lowered suspension or the deep-dish rims, and I'd certainly replace that skull on the column-shift, but it's certainly been well looked after.

If the owner of said W114 happens to be a member here, I'd love to get in touch.

Eternal Oak.

I have a quick kind of dumb question. I just got this car and have been working on getting it in perfect shape. Do you know how well it handles at freeway speeds? (70-75 mph)

Handling should be fine. However, getting the car to get to that speed will be an undertaking (while getting overtaken). I think 0-60 mph was around 30 seconds or something like that when these cars were new. Now it's probably 60 seconds. And for those last 10-15 mph, figure on another several minutes. I think that car' stop speed when new might have been around 84 mph or something.

Thirty seconds sounds like a bit of a reach. I owned one of the slowest vehicles ever sold here ('82 Vanagon camper w/1.6 diesel) and that had a 48hp, propelling the thing to sixty in about thirty five seconds. I think my 220D w/2.2L and 60hp took about twenty seconds. For reference, modern MB diesels do it in about six seconds. I routinely drove my 220D at sixty five or seventy

I was just guessing based on memory. Perhaps the car performs better than the simulator, but that's all the info I've been able to find.

Also 1976 300D from North America. This car had a full engine rebuild at only 69k miles due to the original owner only servicing the car twice since new !! Goes good now.
