1972 Mercedes 114 280 CE Coupe

I own a 1972 Mercedes 114 280 CE Coupe. I saw a couple of pictures in the internet of the same car as mine but of a cabrio version and I wonder if Mercedes had ever introduced a cabrio for this particular model. I am very interested to make my car cabrio. Does anyone know if this is possible? I look forward to receive your comments.

As far as I know, MB didn't make the 114 a cab version.

No... the 114/115 chassis came were only made in sedan and coupe versions. The cabrio versions you see are "home-made" therefore are very unlikely to be any good, due to structural problems.

Aside from the fact that, IMHO when you buy a MB of any age, you are purchasing elegant and top engineered designs. So any big mod is probably worse than original.

A british coach builder called Crayford made a convertible version of this car.

Hi!

Im also a proud owner of a "Stricht Acht" 280CE "Baujahre": 1973. I have some questions about the engine/chassis numbers.

I have searched the numbers here on the Benzworld. My numbers starts with: 110 981 for the Engine (2.8 litre with bosch d-jetronic fuel injection) and the chassis: 114 073. In the benzworld database i cant find these numbers. Why? Can somebody tell me the reason?

Thanks! Regards from Hungary!

I think the convertible version was a limited serie or was made for unique orders. I dont think they were homemade's.

Icram ,
I can't tell you why you can't find the #'s but I have a 1973 W114 Coupe with a chassis # 114-072... and an engine # 110-981 ....I love this car ...I'm in the USA and these weren't exported to the US when new. I bought it from a German gent. who inherited it from his father.....and then imported it to Atlanta,Ga. where I bought it and drove it home to New York...
